Twitter is my new RSS
Written by tfitch on March 30, 2010 – 3:03 pm -Since the start of the year (and probably longer) I’ve found that Twitter is my new news reader, replacing most RSS.
I rarely find myself in Google Reader anymore. But I will check out Tweetdeck on my iPod Touch a couple times a day. Read everything and fave the ones with links I want to read later. I don’t even load the AIR version of Tweetdeck, just the iPod Touch one. It’s fast and efficient.
I am missing some data that I have in RSS feeds that I don’t have on Twitter but that’s been okay so far. I know I’m missing that news by not reading all of it, but I also know that I’m not really missing that news in my day to day life. It is a matter of prioritization for me really. I have been busy at work, so I haven’t had the longer stretches of time to read full RSS articles compared to 140 character summaries.
I don’t think this is the future for everyone, but for reading lots of information fast I think Twitter is a real winner right now.

From my iPod Touch via the Wordpress app
Written by tfitch on January 12, 2009 – 10:26 pm -Hi, just doing a test post from my iPod Touch to see how easy this is. It’s not. I still prefer a real keyboard.

Improving movie browsing in iTunes/Apple TV
Written by tfitch on July 14, 2008 – 9:10 pm -Not a ground breaking discovery here, but this greatly improved the usability of my Apple TV when finding movies to watch.
1) Go to http://www.movieweb.com/ and search for the movie(s) you have in iTunes.
2) Go to the movie’s theatrical release page and/or DVD page. You’ll find images of the DVD cover or images of the various posters used to publicize the movie. (Older movies have less of selection, but the DVD cover will be available). Drag the image of the DVD cover or movie poster to your desktop or a folder you’ll store all your images in.
3) In iTunes find the movie highlight it by clicking on it once. Now type Command-i or control-i to bring up the Info window for the iTunes file. The last tab is ‘Artwork’ and it’ll be empty. Click on the ‘Add’ button and select the image you just downloaded from movieweb.com to be the artwork for the movie.
4) You’re done. Now when you browse your movie library in iTunes or on your Apple TV you’ll see this boxshot instead of the default image which is a frame of the movie, almost certainly not usable to visually define the movie.
